Bowling Club gets an instant lift

Funded by a grant from the National Lottery, a new bowling pavilion is using a Grifter sewage pumping station to transfer all wastewater from the pavilion's services to the main sewerage system over 20m away.

Foul and wastewater from the pavilion's washrooms and catering facilities is directed to the Grifter's holding tank, which incorporates a float switch level sensor.  The pump is triggered when the effluent reaches a pre-set high level, and is then allowed to run for as long as it takes to reach the low level.

To reduce installation requirements, the unit was supplied ready assembled in a glass fibre reinforced plastic kiosk. The only site preparation necessary was a hole and foundation slab.  Use of a small bore pipe for the rising main offers cost savings and minimises the risk of septicity and odour problems.  Running costs are reduced even further by the relatively low speed of the pumps compared to traditional submersible units.
