Mono touches down at local airport

A new fire station created to meet the emergency services needs of the new Runway 2 at Manchester Airport is benefiting from proven Mono Pumps technology to handle wastewater and sewage from shower and toilet facilities.

Leading construction companies Amec and Carillion joined forces in the £172 million project to build Manchester Airports second runway and installed a Mutrator sewage pumping system for the new fire station.

Two industrial progressing cavity pumps and two macerators were supplied with all interconnecting pipework and enclosed above ground in a double-doored GRP kiosk. The positive displacement action of the pumps lift the sewage and wastewater from the sump into the macerator for disintegration and then transfer to the mainline sewer at a capacity of 11m3/h.

By finely macerating the sewage before pumping, the customer benefits from small bore pumping, as well as a pumping station located in a dry, above sewage location. The progressing cavity pumps have low wear rates, minimal spares usage and low running costs.
